As a visual arts student at Carver Arts and Tech with a passion for art and fashion, Vanessa found herself in the chair of Michele Stuart, a MICA graduate and Senior Colorist at DK Salon in Baltimore. The conversation they had in her chair that day would forever impact her life, as she learned that hairdressing was an art that she had yet to discover. She left that day with a head of dimensional crimson hair, feeling beautiful and confident, and knowing that she wanted to make other people feel that same way. She continued to visit Michelle for new looks constantly, learning from her along the way.
Vanessa enthusiastically enrolled in Robert Paul Academy for Cosmetology and began her journey into hairdressing. After graduating, DK Salon, a member of Intercoiffure Mondial, brought her in as an apprentice where she assisted her mentor with color, blow drys and finishing. She earned her place on the floor and continued as a team member at DK Salon until the business eventually relocated. Vanessa decided to remain at the original location with some of the team and her mentor, under the new ownership, K Co Design until 2012.
It was then time for her to take a step back and do some soul searching. Over the course of 3 years, she dedicated all of her time to self development. Filling her days with yoga, meditation, clean eating and striving to be her best self. All of that personal growth led her right back to the industry. Returning to her craft with a renewed passion and fresh outlook in October of 2015 as a Junior Stylist at Crafted Hair Studio.
Throughout her career, Vanessa has trained with Oscar Bond, Alfaparf Milano, Tigi, American Crew. She is currently working daily under her new mentor, Senior Stylist, Daniel Elder.
Vanessa believes not only in the business, but also that through her craft and creative outlet, she can make a positive difference in people lives each and every day.
